Mayfield School is a community special school which caters for pupils aged 3-19 years who have severe, profound and complex learning difficulties. We are situated near Whitehaven just a few miles from the beautiful Lake District National Park.

ROCK CHALLENGE 2009
A Senior and Junior performance
For the first time Mayfield entered the Junior Rock Challenge in partnership with Hensingham Primary School and together achieved an inspirational, moving and exciting performance of Noah's Ark.

BENDRIGG LODGE
Adventure and achievement
Pupils and staff from the Planets Department experience the challenge of a week long residential stay at Bendrigg Lodge.

SPEECH & LANGUAGE TEAM
A Total Communication Approach

The Speech Therapy Team work with staff and pupils throughout the school to support and maximise all children’s communication skills and give advice on feeding programmes.

After school arts workshop


Pupils meet together with deputy head Gillian Temple after school on Wednesdays to develop their skills. Activities include sketching and digital photography.
REACHOUT
Supporting Inclusion in Cumbria

REACHOUT has been developed as a strategy to support young people with Special Educational Needs in mainstream schools, whilst promoting the quality of provision and expertise which already exists at Mayfield School. Join with us in developing partnership with mainstream colleagues to support pupils with special needs.
An Inclusive Community
Inclusion and Dual Placement

Year 10 students from Mayfield ( Saturn Class ) and Millom schools working on a joint robotics project at Sellafield. Students had to build a buggy and use ICT to complete tasks.

AQUA SPLASH
Swim School

Click here for more information about the AquaSplash Swim School, a privately run business which takes place at the Mayfield School pool. The swim school takes children from four years of age, from non swimmers to beginners. An A.S.A qualified teacher teaches the swim school. Click for details or contact Gavin Bound Tel: 01946 817777
